WITNESS TO THE WORD
The call for us Divinians: WITNESS TO THE WORD has been proclaimed resoundingly at DWCL Campus for almost a year. Hopefully, it has also found a meaningful echo in our hearts. But what does Witness to the Word really mean? What are its implications in our lives as Divinians?
By now we have come to know in a more personal way that the WORD in JESUS, the FATHERS’S WORD made flesh. Jesus became man like us and was born of Mary. In Him we see the FATHER’S FACE and in Him we come to know the FATHER’S heart ever-loving us unconditionally.
Witness is defined as somebody who sees something: somebody who saw or heard something that happened and gives evidence about it. (Encarta Dictionary)
In this definition, the word somebody can refer to a Divinian. But what has a Divinian seen or heard that had happened and give evidence about it? In the strength of the Holy Spirit we have tried to live our own identity: BE A COMPANION AND HERALD OF JESUS, THE DIVINE WORD. It is then through our companion-experience of Jesus that we have seen, heard, touched and felt JESUS presence personally in the very ordinariness of our lives. It is JESUS’ presence in our moments of joy, triumph, and even pain. In times of our darkness, sorrow and brokenness Jesus is truly present comforting us and granting us His joy, a joy no sorrow can take away. “So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shall see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy, and that joy no one shall take from you” (John 16.22). When Jesus is our constant companion we experience joy and peace in spite of pain and suffering. Jesus’ intimate union with the Father and the Holy Spirit empowered Him to obediently embrace His Passion, Death and Resurrection. ‘Father,’ he said, ‘if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, let your will be done not mine’ (Lk.22.42). We too are called to grow daily in our intimate union with the TRUINE GOD though Jesus by following His example to do the Father’s will confident that He knows what is best for us. The joy of our Companion-Experience with Jesus prompts us to share it with others. Mary Magdalen’s deep joy of having seen the Risen Lord urged her to share the good news to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord’ and that He had said these things to her.” (John 20.18)
When we have seen, heard and touched the Lord we cannot help but be set on fire to share our experience of Jesus like our personal gospel story. This fire burning within us drives us to be Heralds of Jesus, the Divine Word. Like Jesus, we witness to God’s unconditional love, proclaiming Good News to all people in our life through the guidance and strength of the Holy Spirit. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord” (Lk. 4: 18.19).
Divinians, let us testify that we have seen, heard, touched and felt JESUS, the DIVINE WORD in our life. DIVINIANS, WITNESS TO THE WORD!
